I upgraded with no problems from 9.0.0.249. Except one: network speed is now really slow. I've got a realtek NIC (gigabit) and I went from around 50-52MB/sec to 5-6MB/sec.

revise your log, 10 times less banwith, can indicate a faulting disk that need fsck or that your NIC is in 100MBps instead of 1000MBps

Nope. Not faulty disk not misconfigured NIC. It's software.

very good idea, this is even a major advantage in a normal Windows Computer, not to speak of FreeBSD/NAS4Free

True. But this not the same machine. And what's strange is that in 9.0 works perfect but in 9.1 there are problems. So something's up with Realtek in 9.1. A pity, because it's a very common chipset. But, seeing it's very difficult to solve i'll end up buying an intel NIC.

I have two Realtek 8111C on board , and works fine, perhaps others users than use RTL8111E can confirm if works fine or not.

The issue is a lock up during shut down sequence, namely during the USB bus shut down that forces me to reset the NAS. After that the USB key holding the embedded install is no longer bootable.
I tried with a fresh install; it works fine as long as I don't import any of the storage drives.

Been doing some thinking and testing and I found the reason behind my hangs.

To speed up file searches and simple folder navigation, I'm using the remainder of the embedded install USB key as a ZFS second level metadata-only cache. To do this, I manually repartition the USB key and add that partition as ZFS cache device via command line.

An example is like this:

Code: Select all

nas4free:~# zpool status
  pool: datamain
 state: ONLINE
  scan: resilvered 911G in 4h38m with 0 errors on Sat Dec 22 21:03:12 2012
config:

        NAME        STATE     READ WRITE CKSUM
        datamain    ONLINE       0     0     0
          raidz1-0  ONLINE       0     0     0
            ada3    ONLINE       0     0     0
            ada4    ONLINE       0     0     0
            ada0    ONLINE       0     0     0
            ada1    ONLINE       0     0     0
            ada2    ONLINE       0     0     0
        cache
          da0s2     ONLINE       0     0     0

Without the cache partition, system behaves normaly and reboots/halts complete correctly.
Once I added da0s2 as cache the system hangs like shown in the screenshots during reboots/halts.

Would anyone be able to test on another system if they get the same behavior ?

try a new embeded install that do not use /usr from hardisk to identify if your problems come with this way.

not sure but I remember that you test/use jails.

If posible for you try to install some software into jails, is the best / definitive sollution.

If only DHCP server is the problem, try to use the embeded into router, or install in NAS4Free if is not posuble/option, I remenber taht DHCP server have a few dependencies, so is not probable that can be afeccted in case of upgrade of N4F.

All work on my old 457.
I wrote my post about reinstall php for add extension at November 6th, 2012, after 403 version ( Mon Oct 29 23:52:05 2012 UTC )
I need to learn changes on 573 version and renew tip.

UPD All begin to work.
Before upgrade embedded version to 573 with mounted /usr from another place need remove( or backup ) all from /path/to/mouted_usr/local/www folder, then upgrade server.

I can't follow the links to the 608 download (broken).
My Nas4free upgraded some 20 days ago to NAS4Free 9.1.0.1 (605) automaticly through the web GUI (firmware upgrade) but now it says that the lastest version is:
Latest Release: NAS4Free-x64-embedded-9.1.0.1.573.img (Sun, 16 Dec 2012 15:42:51 +0000)

What is going on?
